Living in Rancho Santa Fe
Rancho Santa Fe is an unincorporated community in the hills east of Solana Beach. Much of it sits within the Covenant of Rancho Santa Fe, where an association reviews building plans and looks after the trails and open space.
The Village, designed in the 1920s by architect Lilian Rice, has a handful of shops and restaurants. Around it are large lots, eucalyptus groves, riding trails and private golf clubs, along with gated communities such as Fairbanks Ranch.

- Mostly single-family homes on large lots, many with room for horses. Rules differ inside and outside the Covenant.
- Schools
- Rancho Santa Fe School District runs R. Roger Rowe School for kindergarten through 8th grade. High school students attend San Dieguito Union High schools.
- Getting around
- Interstate 5 to the west and Interstate 15 to the east, each a short drive through the hills.
